Dear Kindergarten Families,

Primary Centers was fun! Thank you to parents and grandparents who were able to help this month. We could not do this without your preparations and time in class. I truly appreciate it and the children love having you working right along with us!

Our week is going to be busy!

And we have a noon dismissal on Friday.

This week Pope Francis and his visit will be our religion topic and a craft. We will  focus on SLE A.3. Helping others at home, in school, and in the world. Continued reading from the Children’s Bible – learning about Abraham, the promised land and his family.

ELA- phonics focus on letter/sound Ww-Zz, review of literature from Theme 1, independent writing, we will work on our picture sorts through the Words Their Way study for phonics,  vocabulary, spelling and instruction. This week we sight words will be checked-time ran out last week. You will be informed on what words your child needs help with. Remember sight words are known by sight – we allow about 3 seconds for recognition.

EM – Everyday Math finds us beginning the second section of hands-on learning. We will be working on shape collages, looking at the attributes of plane shapes describing and noting how may sides and corners. I am going to ask for magazines or food ads for us to cut out as we continue with the collages. At the end of the week we will focus on spatial concepts in everyday situations, terms to use: top, below, next to, between, behind, around, in front of, over and under, inside and outside, up and down, and  left and right.

Science- continues with life science – insects and follow up on birds. A talk about the super moon eclipse.

Social studies – mapping our home and school – discussions on community helpers.

Reminders to bring in library book on or before Thursday in order to check out a new one.

The completed work folder comes home on Tuesday- please review work, sign the sheet on back cover and return the next day we have an incentive if all are returned promptly!

The  October service hour calendar was emailed this weekend – let me know if you can help here at school or at home.

Blessings,

Mrs. Carol Brown
