Dear Kindergarten Parents and Families,

Here it is almost Thanksgiving! Thank you for choosing Sacred Heart School. Your children brighten my every day, I am truly blessed to teach as well as learn from them.

Your children are truly thankful for their blessings, but they do understand that there are others that are less fortunate.  If you did not receive a bag for the food drive let me know. St Vincent de Paul needs our support. These non-perishable items are needed this week. Please remember to purchase a Teddy Bear to support the Adopt-a-Family mission on December 2. Bring in plush animals any day this week.

Going to the Channel Islands Museum and Visitor Center was a real treat. Your children were polite and respectful I was very proud of them. We had an amazing time and learned a lot through the various programs presented that day. The the interaction of Ranger diver to the students during the Live Dive video conferencing was fantastic.

Our religion lessons have been centered on learning how precious we are to God and our families. This week our chapter 10 is ‘Thanking is Good’. We will learn to acknowledge that all things have been created by God and belong to Him, and come to us by His goodness. Our scripture for this week “Always be thankful” based on Colossians 3:15-17.

ELA: Letter focus continues with Mm and review of Ss. Reading and listening skills has us assembling Thanksgiving booklets and reading together. We are comparing today with our traditions and the ways of people long and their ways of life. This brings me to the story, The Drinking Gourd, an American book first published in 1928 about the Underground Railroad. This week we are painting gourds for an art/literature lesson in place of our normal science lab.  A big Thank you to Mrs. Glauser for bringing us a class set of dried and cured gourds to paint and decorate.

Math continues with finding number patterns, counting, number stories and using dice to add numbers together. Use the Mathematics at Home book 2 for that extra support with hands-on learning. Thank you for all who brought in book 1. If you have this at home return for a sticker. These books are yours to keep and will be returned in the next “Take Home Folder’.

We  have a free dress to support the victims of  Typhoon Haiyan on Wednesday. Please contribute $1.00 or what you can- millions need food, water and shelter.

Wednesday is also a half-day.

Please return library books to be able to check out a new one. This week we go on Wednesday at 11:00- for a quick story from Mrs. Benner and to check out a book.

Have a beautiful Thanksgiving Day ! Enjoy family and friends over this 4-day weekend.

God Bless your families,

Mrs. Carol Brown
