Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Our students sure did a wonderful job portraying their saints on Friday.  I was very proud of my kinders, the eighth grade helpers, and all students in the primary grades. Lots of work from their parents as well.  Thank you!

As we move into this week, please note the changes in the lunch program. The catering company TDT is convenient and easy to order from. The information is on the website. If you choose not to use this program, please send in a snack and lunch for your child.

No more towels for rest time! In place of resting on their towel, we will listen to a story or an educational video clip. After the trimester we will bring in sharing. This will be in number order, only two students each day. I will send out a reminder on the calendar.

This week we are having a free dress on Wednesday to support our efforts for the Adopt-a-Family mission. Please send in a dollar if your child is to participate.

Thursday is our outreach program, Hey, Little Ant. This will be a great experience for your child. They may be bringing home an insect (meal worm) to observe it change into a beetle.

Friday is a noon dismissal.

Academics:

In religion we will focus on talking to God. This chapter will teach children that prayer can include reflection, speech, gestures, music, song and dance. We will participate in a variety of prayer experiences.

Our reading strategy will be to predict/infer as we read, stopping to make predictions then read on to see if we are correct. Comprehension focus is the sequence of events. As we read, part of our understanding comes from information in the beginning, middle, and end of story.  We will also look for a problem in the beginning and how is is solved in the end. Letter/sounds to compare and review are /s/,/m/. Focus letter Alpha Friend Reggie Rooster, sound and formation of /Rr/. At home, please continue with sight words and number words.

Math: working with numbers 0-5, vocabulary: more, less, and equal sets. We will also be using a number line and the 100 chart. Continue to use the number word cards at home.

Social Studies will focus on the role of family in the neighborhood and how they are affected by others in the community. A look Veteran’s Day and a craft to honor the military. We will explore Thanksgiving today and compare it to long ago. Science continues with our five senses with Tuesday’s lab on sound.
**Art lesson on lines and designs, we will use a leaf print and our imaginations.

This should take us through the week! Any questions or concerns, please contact me.
