Dear Kindergarten families,

Tuesday we are sending out the mid trimester Progress Reports. Please review with your child, sign and return by October 15.

Picture retakes on Wednesday, October 10.

A look at our week:

During the month of October learning about several saints covers much of our religion. We continue with prayer through quiet hearts and beautiful songs. Chapter 6, Talking to God is Good with scripture focus from 1 Samuel 3:10, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”

ELA –  letter/sound recognition; focus letter Pp; letter formation; Words Their Way sorting and categorizing pictures to help us build vocabulary and word knowledge.  Sight word work daily – testing on list 1 or 2 this week.  Writer’s and Reader’s Workshop this week finds us making our writing the best it can be as we gather ideas to practice storytelling. Re-reading is an important skill, we learn to focus on exact parts of books that we know well and retell these parts to our partners.

Math -reading numbers 0-20 and adding numbers 0-10; back to patterns – this time finding patterns in nature, clothing, floor tiles, etc. Creating patterns with designs, movement and oral counting and lastly this week we begin to work even harder on number formation.

Science – our garden is growing very well, working with second grade has made it a lot of fun! Our unit on plant and animal changes along with seasons continue this month.

Social studies – last week we did not get to mapping, especially finding Jamaica on the world map. This week we will catch up!

Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Brown
