A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

READING:  As we amp up our reading power, we are learning how to read at a just-right pace to help with fluency and comprehension. We are also learning how authors use literary language causing us to notice the language, reread, recall what’s happening in the story, and to question what the author wants us to know by using the special language.

PHONICS: As word builders, we are learning how to look for what looks right, spelling words with long /a/ using different spelling patterns, listening for where we hear vowels, and building bigger words from little words.

SPELLING: Spelling tests will be on Friday, March 12.

MATH: We completed Unit 6 and took the Unit 6 Assessment today. The next unit of math focuses on patterns and rules.

RELIGION: In Chapter 18, we learn the importance of listening to the readings and Gospel during Mass. We also learn how to respond during the Liturgy of the Word.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP: We are working on the final touches to our opinion writings as we get ready to publish our work by the end of the week. Students will be asked to record themselves on Seesaw reading their opinion writings.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We will be sharing our timelines during class this week and next. We are learning about primary and secondary sources as we continue learning about our past and present.

SCIENCE: We will learn that plants have different needs in terms of sunlight and water. Focus question: Should you water a cactus?
