It was nice to see so many families at the SHS Showcase. We received many compliments on your children’s timelines.

A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

READING:  We are learning how to use what we know about characters to predict what will happen in the book and to better understand the relationships between characters.

PHONICS: We are learning about the word part –ture at the end of mores complex words. We are also learning about the schwa (the “uh” sound) to help us solve tricky words.

SPELLING: Spelling tests will be on Friday, April 23.

MATH: We are learning about fractions of collections (how many pennies are 1/4 of 16 pennies?) and equivalent fractions (1/2 = 2/4).

RELIGION: In Chapter 22, we learn that our gratitude for God’s gifts is best shown by serving others and sharing his love.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP: We are taking a break from narrative writing to focus on nonfiction writing. This week we are brainstorming topics of interest and deciding what type of nonfiction writing to use (nonfiction chapter book, how-to-book, a teaching story, a question and answer book, or an ABC book).

SOCIAL STUDIES: We will be comparing and contrasting rural, suburban, and urban communities.

SCIENCE: We will be taking a break from Science this week.
