Congratulations to our second grade friends and their families on the celebration of their First Holy Communion. It was a beautiful day!
ACADEMICS
Reading: As our books get longer, it is easy to forget what we have read. When this happens, we need to stop, reread, and ask questions to make connections to what we have read and what we just read. We are also encouraged to write notes along the way to help connect the different parts of the story.
Phonics: We continue building words by noticing the different ways to spell words with the Long E and Long I sounds. For words with the Long E sound, we are learning about the spelling patterns ee, ea, e_e, e, and y. We are also learning the following spelling patterns ( i_e, igh, i, and y) for words with the Long I sound.
Spelling: Please check your student’s planner for their sort. Spelling tests will be on Monday. Some students may spend two weeks on their sort.
Math: We are learning the concepts of multiplication and division as well as how to make several coin combinations equivalent to $1. To help us with multiplication and division, we use diagrams, rectangular arrays, and pictures to aid in our understanding of the total number of everyday items or the equal groups of everyday items.
Writing: We are learning how to write opinion letters about our favorite characters from our favorite books.
Religion: We will reflect on our First Holy Communion experiences. In addition, we continue to learn what to do after receiving Jesus in Holy Communion.
Social Studies: We continue learning about about the formation of laws.
Science: None this week.
