The week ahead in 4thgrade

Math: We are working on Unit 5, with the main focus being multiplication.

Reading: We are wrapping up our unit on nonfiction reading, working in small groups, sharing our research on our assigned weather topics. Students will be preparing posters and oral reports, to be finished before Christmas break.  Students may continue reading chapter books for their Reading Response journals.  If you have any questions, please contact me. Remember, nightly homework is to read 20-30 minutes! 

Writing: This week we will begin writing our personal opinion essays.

Spelling: We will have the test on Unit 17 words on Friday. Remember that these words are available for practice on SpellingCity.com.

Vocabulary: We will be learning about the words from Unit 8; the test will be after the Christmas break.

Social Studies: We will finish lesson 3, chapter 2; quiz will be on Friday.  Then next Tuesday we will have the chapter 2 test.

Science: We have begun reading chapter 4.

Religion: We begin unit 4, entitled We love God’s people. The focus is on the last seven commandments.

School Notices

  • Holiday Food Drive: We will have red bins outside every day this week for your donations of non-perishable food items.  These items will be given to the Sacred Heart Church Food Pantry.
  • This Wednesday we will have a free dress; cost is $1, and the money will be donated to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.
  • Cooler weather has arrived, and with this the need for warmer clothes.  Please send your children to school with jackets, and be sure to label the jackets with their names.
  • The Girl Scouts are collecting children’s coats, to be donated to local shelters.  You may bring your donations this week.
