Dear Kindergarten Families,

I hope everyone gets a chance to see the super moon Sunday night and early Monday morning!

A look at our week:

*vision screening on Monday morning

*art lesson with Nancy Spooner on Tuesday

*Friday Flag retirement at 11:00 -dismissal at 2:45

Academics:

Religion – understanding how precious we are! Our lesson is based on Psalm 139:14 “I thank you, O Lord, for the wonders of myself.”

ELA- alphabet recognition and sounds – noting vowels, both short and long.  Rhyming, syllables, and compound word sorts to help with our phonemes for stronger reading skills. Reading workshop has us looking, reading, spelling, writing, and back to reading sight words. Known in the workshop as ‘snap’ words. A way to remember how fast we should know sight or snap words… we say ‘pop’ when we see them in print. Our writing workshop continues with writing/drawing a true event -with three parts how it begins, what comes next and how it ends.

Math – basic number sense using these skills:  skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s, understanding odd and even numbers, adding with objects, using the 110 chart for number recognition, and a game with teen numbers.

Science – our program “Music Over Manhattan” is this Thursday – based on the story and the science of vibration. We will also continue learning about animals, their coverings and how animals change as the season of winter approaches.

Social Studies – we will review Veterans Day with reading a passage. We will begin to compare people from long ago and people of today.

Have a wonderful week!

Blessings,

Mrs. Brown
