Hello Third Grade Families!

We are right in the middle of the merry month of May, and much is happening here on campus. Keep your eye on the school calendar for updates. This week we have the following:

Wednesday ~ Free Dress: bring $1 (or more!) to go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital; used uniform sale; powder puff football game in the afternoon & primary grades musical revue in the evening

Friday ~ In-N-Out!!!

Math: The class will continue Unit 9 (Multiplication & Division) with a focus later in the week on learning the “partial-products algorithm.” This is the first of two multi-digit multiplication algorithms that we will learn. If you’d like to practice this at home, feel free to check out this video link. It will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to use this method for solving like problems.

IXL Math Homework:

FF2: Perimeter of rectilinear shapes

FF4: Find the missing side length

FF10: Find the area of rectangles and squares

Reading: This week will be all about fluency ~ practice, exercises and activities. As a reminder, reading fluency is much more than speed. It’s all about expression, automatic word recognition, rhythm/phrasing & smoothness, too.

Word Work: This week’s spelling test will be on Friday. Don’t forget to study.

Grammar: Moving forward, we will make our way into our final chapter ~ Adjectives and Adverbs. This week will be a review of adjectives and articles (a, an, the).

Science: We will learn all about atoms and how elements are organized on the periodic table.

Religion: The class will wrap up Chapter 18: Jesus Gives his Spirit to the Church as we learn all about Mary, someone who was a great listener to the Holy Spirit.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
