Hello Third Grade Families!
This Wednesday we have our first free dress day. All participating students should bring $1 (or more!). Funds collected will be donated to the LA Archdiocese Adopt-a-Family program. Please see the school website for more information on school appropriate free dress attire.
This week in class…
Math: We continue this week with Chapter 2, focusing on multi-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping. If you’re feeling ambitious this week, I would encourage all to spend some time practicing subtracting money (making change) across zeroes: for example $5.00-3.23=… or $25.00-15.25=…)
For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Third Grade Skills…
C.2 Addition Input/Output Tables
D.2 Addition Input/Output Tables
Reading: All students are required to read a total of 100 minutes each week and record these in the reading log. Additional logs and new fluency passages will go home on Tuesday.
Students are now taking home their in-class reading books, continuing with them for the reading log. The idea here is to encourage students to continue reading one book at a time rather than having to switch books between home and school. Look for your child’s “within reach” book in a zip-lock bag with his/her name on it. It should be coming and going every day.
Word Work: Now that we’ve had their words for two weeks, our first spelling test will take place Thursday morning. Students should study their words by focusing on specific word pattern(s).
Writer’s Workshop: We started the week trying on leads, finding better and more interesting ways to begin our stories. Later this week, we will be working on drafting and revising with mentor texts.
Science: This week is all about properties of matter: size, shape, color, texture…
Religion: This Wednesday is our first religion quiz! It will be on Chapter 1, “God Calls Us”. If you’d like to know more, click here for the study guide!
Have a great week!
