Hello 3rd Grade Families,
It’s another scorcher! Remember to send your child with a bottle of water, especially on these warm PE days.
Say cheese! Wednesday is Picture Day. Don’t forget to order your pictures online. All students should arrive wearing uniforms.
This week in class…
Math: We continue with Chapter 2: Adding and Subtracting Whole Numbers. The class will cover lessons 2.2-2.5 focusing on addition and subtraction with regrouping.
For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Skills…
C.2 Addition input/output tables up to 3-digits
C.9 Add two or more numbers with 4-digits
D.2 Subtraction input/output tables up to 3-digits
Reading: Keep logging in those minutes on Reading Glue. The more we read, the better readers we become. Since Reading Glue lists your child’s current guided reading level, try checking out Scholastic Book Wizard for good-fit leveled titles.
As you read with your child, try and practice asking questions before/during/after reading. This week’s Parent Pipeline will help you reinforce this skill at home. Remember that parents make excellent partner readers, too! Click here to download.
Click here to download this week’s fluency homework. It’s all about stingrays!
Spelling: Take advantage of SpellingCity.com! Our next spelling test will be on Friday. Your child’s first graded spelling tests will go home this week too. You will notice that we do not test on every single word. Rather, we choose a sampling of about half from the sort. Students who show mastery of the pattern will move on to the next sort, while those whose tests indicate that extra practice is needed will be given a more developmentally appropriate sort.
Vocabulary: We begin Unit 2 with the plan of finishing next week. Again, we will take the quiz together in class.
Grammar: We plan to spend some more time with Lesson 42 – Capitalizing Proper Nouns. Please take some time this week to practice writing names and addresses with your child, emphasizing that first and last names are always capitalized as well as street, city & states.
Take advantage of the grammar workshop website for additional practice. Your child is welcome to take home his/her grammar book in order to see the Access Code. This is needed in order to establish your account.
Science: The class will welcome a special guest on Thursday. Mr. Rzasa, an SHS parent & chemist, will be joining our class periodically this year for very special labs and activities.
Social Studies: The class will begin working on locating ourselves on the globe. Students will practice writing their country, state, city, street and even continent in small craft activity. Note: This is a grammar standard as well!
Religion: We begin a new chapter: 24 God’s Family Celebrates the Eucharist.
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
