Dear Third Grade Families,

I’m glad to see the students rested and ready to learn after such a wonderfully long weekend. Third grade continues to send out lots of love and support to all the Veterans out there.

This Wednesday we will extend our support to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul with a free dress day. Students who plan to participate should bring in $1. See our school’s dress code (www.sacredheartschoolventura.org/our-school/uniform) for more information on what clothing is acceptable for these special days.

On Thursday we will have an assembly for the Month of November at 11:00am. We will also visit the library on this day. Please remind your child to bring in his/her books so that new ones may be checked out.

We are well on our way to finishing the first Trimester of the year, so the next couple of weeks will be devoted to tying up as many loose ends as possible.

Our academic plans for the coming week are as follows:

Math: We will begin wrapping up our study of the clock “elapsed time.” On Tuesday, we will review time and take a short quiz. As always, math quizzes may be corrected and returned for full credit. After this, we will begin a brief study of the calendar. I plan to finish Chapter 2 (Money, Time, Calendar) early next week.

Science: We are wrapping up Chapter 7, “Chemical Changes,” with a review of physical vs. chemical changes, the periodic table, compounds and mixtures. Students can expect to be assessed on this chapter early next week. If you would like to study, I would highly recommend going over the science practice pages and booklets that your child has been taking home every week in his/her Tuesday School Work folders.

Language Arts: This is a Review Week in spelling. We started the week with a pre-test so that students can see which of the 25 words as well as which patterns they should focus on when practicing. These were sent home in Monday’s Homework Folders. Only 18 words will be selected on Friday for the test (as well as 2 extra credit words). These are all words that student have encountered before in previous units. In Writer’s Workshop, we are currently revising our friendly letters. In English, we continue to study adjectives. In reading, we are moving on to Theme 3: A Visit to the South West!

Social Studies: In Social Studies, we are learning that the people in communities make a difference. In particular, we are looking at how human resources (like volunteers) make a difference. Finally, we will begin to look at how communities have histories.

Religion: In Religion, we will continue to study the Apostle’s Creed as well as some of the mysteries of our faith (i.e. God is three persons in one).

Have a great week!

Best,

Mrs. Espinosa
