Dear Third Grade Families,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful week off of school with time to spend among friends and family.
As a reminder, this Friday we will have the In-N-Out truck here for lunch. Yum!
Math: We continue with measurement, moving on from measuring time to measuring metric units of mass and capacity. Earlier in the week, we’ll learn about the difference between grams and kilograms. Later, we will cover liters and milliliters. Although we are skipping around the book now (due to the changes with our Common Core standards), these concepts can be found in Chapter 4.
Language Arts:
Spelling & Vocabulary— Spelling: Unit 25 _ed and _ing endings, Vocab: life on the farm.
Reading— We will finish The Moon with a short comprehension test on noting details. Then, we will begin reading poetry from Jack Prelutzky’s Something BIG Has Been Here. If your child does not have a copy, please pick one up as soon as possible so he/she can participate in class. Finally, we have a new reading log for Trimester 3. Please download and make a copy of this below:
Language—The class will be studying abbreviations for titles in names (Mr., Mrs., Dr.) as well as days of the week/months of the year (Sept., Tues.). The annual SHS speech contest is fast approaching. As a reminder, students should have turned in a typed copy of their poem the morning of Monday, April 8th. Students will be reciting their poems for the class on April 8th.
Religion: This week we will begin Chapter 16: “Jesus is Risen.”
Science: We will continue with Chapter 5, moving on to Lesson 3: the phases of the moon! This is an area of high interest for students. I’d highly encourage you to take a peek out your windows at night this week and see what phase we’re in.
Social Studies: This week we will begin our study of the Chuman people, the American Indians of our local region!
Have a great week!
All the Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
