Third grade families,

Happy September! We continue to work hard and steady in third grade! I am proud of all the great work we have been producing so far.

Important dates-

  • Wednesday, September 4th- picture day!
  • Friday, September 6th- grandparents & half day

Homework this week (due next Tuesday)-

  • READO/100 minutes of reading per week
  • IXL math skills: S.3, S.4, T.3
  • Fluency

Sneak peek to our academic week-

Math: Our first unit in math is entirely review from second grade. This week we will work with money amounts and number sequence patterns. We will have our first unit test next week.

Reading: This week in reading we will work to follow textual clues as we read, asking ourselves, “what mind work does the text want me to do?” Later in the week we will practice making predictions in our fiction stories.

Writing: This week we will choose our “seed idea” for our narrative pieces. Before writers begin the writing process, they tell their story in a storyteller’s voice. This week we will practice telling our stories out loud, then transferring those ideas onto paper. We will also work on leads (introductions) for our pieces.

Word work: We have officially begun word work! Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner. Our first spelling test is projected for next Thursday. We will keep our same words for two weeks.

Religion: This week we took our first quiz on chapter 2. This week we will work through chapter 3: We are God’s Holy People, focusing on St. Francis and St. Clare!

Have a wonderful week,

Miss Poindexter
