First Grade Families,

We prepare to be on Zoom a little longer than expected. Ms. Benner sent out an email earlier today with a new start date. We were made aware of the new start date yesterday so I did not send home things this last Friday that may be needed for the next few weeks. I may be sending things home via email if needed. As of now, the students will need more writing paper so I will attach it to the email I will send this evening.

Conferences: During our parent-teacher conferences I promised to send comprehension questions to ask before reading, during reading, and after reading a book which was sent out last week. I did have a few parents ask about writing. I will be sending the rubric I use to grade your child’s information writing via email. This will give you an idea of what I look for in their writing. Along with the rubric, I will send the math test that needs to be printed out by Thursday night to be ready for Friday morning.

Homework:

REMINDER: Homework is due by Tuesday morning. Please be sure to click the green checkmark to turn in.

  • Reading Log: Read 20 min. a day (at least 5 times a week)
  • Practice new word sort. Go over word patterns with your child. (Test will be on Monday). This week a few groups did not take their spelling test since I’m giving them an assessment to check their mastery in their word sort. Therefore, no test for sorts from last week. This week all students began a new sort and will be tested on Monday.
  • Fluency
  • Math IXL: A.17 and A.18

Sneak Peek To Our Academic Week

MATH:  Please review counting money, frames and arrows, writing the time to the hour and half-hour, and simple addition and subtraction. Take a peek in their math books (unit 3) to review. Math TEST will be on Friday.

READING: It continues being about learning good reading habits (sneak peek, check your sneak peek, and do something after you read). We have learned to reread to see more. We practiced in class so have them try it after they read a book. 🙂

WRITING:  It is so much fun listening to the kiddos read their How To Books… Please have them read at least one of their books. We are working on adding details and more important information.

SPELLING/WORD SORT:  Look in their planner for the spelling words. Spelling test on Monday.

RELIGION: We are learning about families.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Martin Luther King, Jr.

REMINDERS:

Please make sure you look at our school website for any school activities or assemblies.
