Hello Second Grade Families,

We have a big week ahead. Tomorrow we will be on a field trip to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, followed by the Saint’s Parade on Friday!

Math: We continue to work through Unit 3: Place Value with much practice dedicated to using base-10 blocks. Later in the week we will take our work on counting money to a new level: making change by counting up.

For IXL math homework this week, please complete the following skills:

P.21 Making change

Q.3 Read clocks and write times

M.7 Place value

Reading: In the coming days, we will begin Unit 2: Becoming Experts ~ Reading Non-fiction. I would encourage all to spend some more time this week and the following on reading non-fiction books, paying special attention to the text features and overall organization of the text. This is largely the focus of our unit.

Word Work: Due to the Saint’s Parade, we will be pushing our spelling test to next Thursday. This means that this week’s words will be the same as the next.

Science: It’s all about earth science at the Natural History Museum. We will be participation in an “outdoor exploration” as well as a class session on rocks and minerals!

Religion: We have spent much time in the Church and in class preparing for our Saint’s Parade presentations and they are a sight to behold. We look forward to seeing you on Friday in the Church. As a quick reminder, your child should arrive to school in his/her Saint costume, but should wear a uniform under so that everyone can change back to ourselves after the parade.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
