ACADEMICS

Reading: We are starting our next reading unit: Becoming Experts of Nonfiction Books. We will be learning to pay attention to the details and ask questions as we read to gain knowledge.

Phonics: We continue reviewing phonological awareness. Our focus this week is reviewing all of the vowel teams we have learned in order to spell words. We are listening to where the vowel sound is located in the word in order to figure out which vowel team to use to spell the word.

Spelling: Your child’s sort can be found in their planner and Homework Folder. New sorts are given on Monday and spelling tests for those sorts are the following Monday.

Math: In Unit 2, we are learning addition and subtraction facts. This week our focus is learning odd and even number patterns, how a number can be named in many ways, and how to create a number sequence when given an addition or subtraction rule.

Writing: We continue working on our personal narratives. We are learning how to use different techniques used by our mentor texts to help write powerful personal narratives.

Religion: We are learning how to show our love for God by loving others as Jesus did. We will also be learning about All Saints Day in preparation of Mass on November 1.

Social Studies: We will finish our our map using a simple letter-number grid system of our classroom. We will also start learning how to locate features on a map of the United States.

Science: We will be learning why our skeletons have so many bones. Our activity will be creating an “x-ray” of our hand.
