Dear Kindergarten Families,

Here we are the beginning of Fall as September comes to its last week! Time certainly does fly by when you are having fun! We are moving along at a nice pace in kindergarten.

Monday morning is vision screening — Tuesday morning will be our first Art lesson with Miss Spooner. Friday is a full day of school.

A look at our academic week:

Religion finds us working on our Schoolwide learning Expectations (SLEs) and our religion standards. Our focus for this week is A.2 Pray everyday and go to Mass. Listening to God’s Word is an continuing process as we review what we hear at Mass and what we hear in the Children’s Bible. Our study follows Abraham, the Promised Land and his descendants.

ELA – we work on alphabet letters/sounds through games and activities each day. This week our focus letter/sound this week is /Bb/. Sight words and print practice works into morning as well. Reading workshop teaches us we can read stories they have heard a zillion times. These stories are our old favorites, the classics. Writing workshop continues with planning and writing teaching books, we go back to old writing pieces and write more trying our best to add more detail and labels.

EM – the first chapter is nearing the end, new work is on shape puzzles with attribute blocks. Our review will  cover counting, measurement, and counting coins.

Science – Lots of fun working with second grade and starting and now caring for our vegetable garden. Our backyard is going to be a bounty of healthy eats! Plant life will be ongoing, we will continue to learn about animals as the seasons change.

Social studies continues with rules! We just might have a guest come in to tell us how children and adults  follow rules for safety in the community.

That will wrap up the week – any questions? Feel free to drop me a note.

Have a blessed week!

Mrs. Brown
