Dearest Third Grade Families,

This week we will be hosting a team of principles and teachers from fellow southern California Catholic schools as our school is evaluated for accreditation. We look forward to welcoming our visitors and showing them just how great a place Sacred Heart is!

This week we’ll be studying the following:

Math: The class will complete Unit 5 (Place Value) with a culminating assessment on Wednesday. As always, I would encourage you to follow along with us by completing the “Home Links” at www.everydaymathonline.com. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

Likewise, we continue to practice our multiplication and division facts. Take a look in your child’s planner for the latest progress report and individual goal.

For IXL math homework, please complete the following Third Grade skills:

T.4 Number Sequences Involving Decimals

N.6 Put Money Amounts in Order

F.4 Multiply by 3

Reading: Our next book will be In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson by Bette Bao Lord and Marc Simont. If you do not already have one, please pick up a copy this week as we will begin this book soon.

English: The class will continue Unit 3: Verbs with Lesson 19 (Future-Tense Verbs). Students are encouraged to study along using the Grammar Workshop series online.

Spelling: Click here to download this week’s spelling words and pattern/principle. Don’t forget that the words for every unit are also available on www.spellingcity.com. Here you can find fun games and an interactive online practice test.

Vocabulary: This week we begin Unit 11. Our next vocabulary quiz will be next Friday. As a reminder, all words as well as activities and a practice quiz can be found at the Vocabulary Workshop website.

Science: We will complete Chapter 9 with lesson 9.3 on color and lights. The chapter 9 test will take place next Monday.

Social Studies: The class will begin a very short unit on Black History Month learning about some of the great contributions made by African-Americans.

Religion: The class will spend a little time this week learning about the exposing of the Sacrament on Fridays and begin Chapter 9.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Espinosa
