Hello Second Grade Families,
Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and sunshine.
These next two weeks will be busy as we wind down the school year. Keep your eye on the school calendar for special days and events (especially next week).
In class, I am pleased to announce that we are all done with homework for the year. Yippee! Instead, use this time to rest up and enjoy a good book at your leisure. Some students are already thinking ahead and planning their summer reading for third grade. This might be a good time to find some good books and set those aside, too.
Math: In math this week, we will be doing a series of explorations on measurement starting with area and moving on to capacity and linear measures. We will also spend some time working on fact fluency (mentally adding and subtracting through 20).
Word Work: We will have our last sort for the year this week. Individual sorts can be found at spellingcity.com. Spelling tests are planned for Friday.
Reading: Just a quick reminder that we will not be visiting the library this week. Rather, we will turning in all books on Thursday. Please have them ready to go in then.
Science: This week we will revisit the properties of matter with a very short unit called “Material Magic”. We will start with an engineering lab making hats to protect us from the sun before exploring changes in states of matter.
Religion: It’s the end of the year and time to reflect on all that we’ve learned and done. We will revisit our prayer journals as we review the different types of prayer.
Have a great week,
Ms. Espinosa
